Our Beginning
At age 18, while working as a Manager for Nordstrom, Dave Margetts purchased a triplex in Salt Lake City—remodeling two units and fully gutting the third. Raised by an avid DIYer, Dave developed a passion for construction at a young age, and this project launched his lifelong career in the industry. Working alongside certified electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians, he quickly learned the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) trades.
In 1998, Dave joined a developer in Bountiful, Utah, converting an old furniture warehouse into a mixed-use property. There, he gained hands-on experience in concrete work (forming, pouring, and finishing), structural framing, finish carpentry, and drywall installation. He transitioned into construction management in November 2000 with a architectural specialty contractor, collaborating with general contractors to integrate specialized products into schools, hotels, and commercial buildings.
Dave founded Home Innovation & Design in 2007, specializing in custom homes and comprehensive remodeling projects. During the 2008 recession, he relocated his family to Dallas, Texas, continuing Home Innovation & Design as a side venture while expanding his project management expertise. In Texas, he managed construction and facilities projects ranging from $5,000 to $6 million for developers, restoration companies, general contractors, and a Fortune 500 telecom company.
In 2022, Dave returned home to Sandy, Utah, to focus on Home Innovation & Design full-time. Today, Home Innovation & Design is proud to have successfully completed over 130 projects for homeowners and business owners across Utah.
